As a leading international association of educational institutions, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) reaches many fundraising, communications and marketing professionals who work on the behalf of colleges throughout the country, and beyond.
The organization increasingly has been finding a key resource at County College of Morris (CCM), as it has turned to Director of Alumni Relations Barbara Capsouras, of Randolph, for insight in the alumni relations field.
“It has been an honor to speak to fellow professionals in alumni relations and advancement through both conferences and publications for CASE,” said Capsouras. “I hope the experience I’ve accumulated at CCM has been helpful to others who work to advance their institutions.”
Capsouras was recently selected for the second consecutive year as a presenter for the CASE Conference for Community College Advancement. Last October in San Diego at CASE’s inaugural conference for community college administrators, Capsouras gave a presentation on leveraging alumni databases to increase affinity and fundraising while enhancing college communications programs.
This year, she will travel again to southern California to present at the conference. Capsouras will give a joint presentation with fellow alumni relations professionals Robert Whelan (Bronx Community College) and Lauren Stroman Hirshberg (Houston Community College). The topic Capsouras plans to address is connecting students with alumni associations and advancement programs. Her talk will explore innovative means of enhancing student involvement, awareness and engagement.
Recently, Capsouras was interviewed for two articles in CASE publications. One appeared in the award-winning magazine CURRENTS, which explores contemporary issues, trends and best practices in advancement. The article, appearing in the March 2013 issue, focused on alumni engagement.
The second piece, “Trailblazing Alumni Relations Officers Give Professional Insight,” was in an April issue of the organization’s Community College Advancement News newsletter. In it, Capsouras discusses what it was like to establish a successful alumni program at CCM, recalling how important it was to create a personal relationship with alumni in order to provide the building block for development.
